The opening of Gatundu Level Four Hospital new wing on Wednesday will reduce congestion at Thika Level Five Hospital, Kiambu County Health Communications Officer Peter Arakwa has said.
Speaking from his office in Thika on Wednesday, Arakwa said that the two main county referral hospitals- Thika and Kiambu Level Five Hospitals- have been under intense pressure to deliver health services to county residents since the health function was devolved.
"The opening of the new wing at Gatundu Level Four Hospital by President Uhuru Kenyatta is a positive step towards decongesting our two county referral hospitals," Arakwa said.
He added that the county government has been working tirelessly towards expanding and equipping various level four hospitals to ensure that only serious cases are referred to the referral hospitals.
"Gatundu Level Four Hospital from today going forward will now pride in having a 12-bed ICU capacity. Similar attempts are underway to replicate the same at Ruiru Level Four and other similar hospitals in other parts of the county.
