In the spate of the recent deaths arising from misuse of firearms, County Police Commanders have been instructed to make a list of licensed firearm owners with a trend of breaching the law and causing harm with their weapons.
This is according to the National Police Service Inspector General Joseph Boinnet.
The IG expressed concern over the rising cases of licensed gun owners killing their spouses, family and friends, with others threatening the common mwananchi publicly.
Boinnet insisted that being in possession of a fire arm did not guarantee such reckless behavior.
"As much as the licences are obtained from the police headquarters, we will liaise with County Police Commanders because we have a record of all the licences issued in their respective areas of jurisdiction," he noted.
He added that anybody found guilty of misusing their firearms will have their licences revoked and punitive measures taken against them.
The announcement comes shortly after a British national Richard Alden was arraigned at a Nairobi court on Monday after he allegedly shot from close range and killed his wife Grace Wangeci in Karen, Nairobi.
According to the Kenyan law, a citizen of sound mind is free to apply for and acquire a license for the possession of a fire arm for self defense during attacks.
