Speaking on Sunday at Daraja Mbili market the traders led by Rose Kwamboka and Olpha Kamanda said they have not been able to sell after the county imposed the ban.
“During his campaigns last year, Governor Ongwae promised to help small traders grow. We are requesting him to intervene and remove the ban that barred us from selling maize along the road,” said Kwamboka.
She noted their business is not illegal because they pay daily tax to the county government.
Kamanda said maize traders depend on the business to feed their families, pay school fees for their children and monthly rent.
“Since the ban was imposed, we have not been able to sell because we fear arrests by county askaris. Ongwae should remove the ban to allow us to operate our businesses,” she said.
