Doctors have resolved to soften their stand on the continued strike, which has entered its 66th day today, Wednesday.
Appearing before the senate committee on health on Tuesday, the doctors promised to lower their demands, if the ministry became genuine with their offer on the negotiating table.
This development as a court deadline for the parties to find a solution draws closer.
The doctors have held on to their demands that the 2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement be implemented, for them to call off the nationwide strike.
The senate committee, led by Wilfred Machage added their voice on those calling on the doctors to resume work, and lift the suffering that Kenyans have been going through.
“My appeal to you is soften a little and I’m giving this appeal as an older brother to you, do not hang on and say unless it’s the CBA to the point, no discussion,” said Machage.
The senate team seems to have struck a certain agreement with the doctors, who responded in a subtle manner.
“We’re not willing to go and supervise death. We are willing to compromise, it is time to compromise as long as the government also is willing to compromise,” said Ouma Oluga.
The doctors and the government have held a number of meetings to solve the impasse, but the doctors maintain that lack of honesty from the government side has been the major undoing every time.
“In terms of basing on the CBA agreement, let me state here that we will not take two or three days to solve this problem if the basis of discussion was the CBA,” added Oluga.
There have been calls from different sectors calling on the doctors and the government to come to an agreement to end the over two-month strike.
