There was a light moment at the Kisumu County Assembly on Wednesday afternoon session when the nominated MCAs took to the floor to make their maiden speeches.
The nominated MCAs mostly women left everyone in the Assembly in stitches as they grappled with spoken English.
One MCA started addressing the Assembly in English and in the middle asked the indulgence of members to switch to Kiswahili.
In the Assembly standing orders, members are advised to stick to one language while addressing the Assembly.
Another female nominated MCA read her speech from a written paper drawing the attention of temporary Speaker Otieno Agola.
“Mr Speaker, I want to acknowledge my party leader Raila Odinga for nominating me,” said Olga Odhiambo nominated MCA before she was cut short by the Speaker.
Agola told the Assembly that they must stick to the rules and procedures of the House.
“Every MCA was taken through an induction course and I expect every one of you to abide by that,” he told the house.
The MCA stuck with making further address in English hurriedly started speaking in Kiswahili which again she did poorly until she was ruled out of order.
The five nominated MCAs were struggling to make their speeches since they were sworn into office.
They thanked ODM party for nominating them into the Assembly.
