Two children have lost their lives after being struck by lightning in Webuye on Sunday.

According to reports, the school children who lost their lives were five and seven years of age. The father of the children sadly described how they were struck by the lightning while seeking shelter in the kitchen while preparing supper.

"I heard cries. On rushing to the kitchen, I found two of them lying on the ground dead. The kitchen was partly destroyed. Neighbors came and tried to give raw eggs to the children who had been struck but it was in vain as they had already died," Ngachi said as reported by The Star.

Meanwhile, two other children received serious burns with one in critical condition at the Webuye sub-county hospital. One child who escaped unhurt described how he noticed a large cloud of smoke prior to witnessing a fire strike the children.

Neighbors and other members of the community have come together to offer their condolences to the family.

While local law enforcement have taken the bodies of the deceased to Webuye sub-county hospital mortuary.
