Parents in Likoni, Mombasa County, have condemned the area's Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office over failure to issue bursaries to students.
According to the parents, their children have not received any bursaries, despite applying for the funds five months ago.
The parents said the move is affecting their kid's education as students have been sent home due to lack of school fees.
One of the parents who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his son has not received any money despite applying for the funds in April.
“Many of the secondary school students including my son have been sent home due to fees arrears yet we are depending on the bursaries which are being provided by the government.”
“The head teachers are demanding for the parents to pay their outstanding fee balances for the students to be readmitted back in school,” said the parent.
However, Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima's aide Mr Evans Momanyi, has dismissed claims that the MP took the list of beneficiaries after he was told that most parents were supporters of the ODM party.
Mr Momanyi said the delay in the issuance of the bursaries is not politically instigated, adding that it was caused by the formation of a new bursary committee.
“The disbandment and formation of a new bursary committee has caused delays in the issuing of the bursaries to the applicants. The cheques will be disbursed before the end of September,” said Mr Momanyi.
