A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Likoni, Mombasa County after he broke his mother’s hand.
Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich who confirmed the incident said the suspect identified as Vincent Wambua alias Jogoo was arrested after he attempted to rape his sister.
Mr Rotich said police from Inuka police station received reports that a man had assaulted her mother while attempting to rape his sister who is mentally disturbed.
The suspect is said to have come home while drunk and started insulting her mother demanding that she gives him ‘space to do some work’.
The 89-year-old mother after hearing the suspect’s sentiments took his walking stick and started beating him as he tried to remove his sister’s clothes.
The police boss said the suspect set on fire beddings belonging to her mother as he demanded to be allowed to sleep with her sister.
Mr Rotich said area residents heard the commotion and they intervened and they frog-marched the suspect to Inuka police station.
“The suspect tried to rape her sister. He also set ablaze his mother’s clothes and bedding after injuring her by breaking her hand. An investigation has been launched and the suspect who is in police custody will be charged with two counts of assault and arson,” the police boss said.
The eldest sister identified as Maria said they suspect that Jogoo who is a last born in a family of eight has been raping their sister following the incident.
“We believe that Jogoo has been raping our sister, somebody cannot wake up one day and demand sex, he must have been doing it regularly. He was once arrested and imprisoned for seven years at Shimo la Tewa over a similar incident,” said Ms Maria as quoted by Baraka FM.
