Residents in Likoni have asked Mombasa County government to start a mosquito net distribution programme.
Last week, the County Malaria Control Unit (CMCU) and the Health Department had announced they will distribute long-lasting treated mosquito nets.
The residents also called on the county government to put in place measures to prevent damages by the anticipated El Nino rains to ensure they don’t suffer losses.
One of the elders in the county, Hassan Mohammed said most people in the area get displaced and injured during heavy rains.
“We are appealing to the county government to provide mosquito nets before the rains start in a bid to prevent malaria.”
“We are also asking the county government to put in place mitigation measures to reduce damages that the residents will suffer when El Nino rains start next month.”
CMCU Coordinator Mohamed Hanif had announced they will start the distribution of the mosquito nets in October.
Hanif said they will have 562 distribution posts in Likoni, Changamwe, Mvita, Kisauni and Nyali.
He said; “The use of mosquito nets has been identified as one of the most ideal ways of combating the spread of malaria.”
