Traders at Likoni shopping cantre incurred losses running into millions of shillings this Wednesday morning after their stalls were pulled down
Several stalls and shops along Ukunda road were demolished by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to pave way for the expansion of Ukunda road.
The traders watched in tears as bulldozer truck demolished their shops under the supervision of armed police officers.
The trader at the shopping centre also lamented that they were not given enough time to vacate from their stalls and shops.
"This is an electronic shop as you can see, It was full of TVs, smart phones and so many electronics which I just stocked this week, I have lost everything, they gave us a very short notice, they could have told us the specific day for demolition;
"I came here by 6 am to open up my business as it has been always the order of the day, I could not believe my eyes, am completely taken back to square zero because I do not have any insurance for this," said Ali Juma, a trader at the market.
Some traders called on Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho to intervene as save their businesses
"Where are our leaders? Whee is our Governor, the MP and even the MCAs? Let them help us. This is so unfair for any Kenyan," said Fatuma Mwang'ombe, an affected trader.
