Donkey owners in Limuru Sub County have a reason to celebrate following provision of free water for the animals by a local dairy processing company.
In a move that is part of Eden Farm Limuru’s Community Social Responsibility (CSR), an outlet is built from their water system to the water site just outside the company.
“Instead of donkeys being taken far to drink water, convenience is created by this site. Also, people with donkeys could be burdened if they had to buy water for the animals daily,” says Phillip Kinuthia, officer in charge of the exercise.
He adds that the initiative is free so that all the community members can benefit.
Kinuthia says boreholes provide the water which makes it possible to provide it for the donkeys.
“It would have been expensive to buy water from the suppliers and still give it to the community at no charge,” he comments.
The community also uses some of this water for household needs.
“We have divided the site in two, a larger portion for donkeys and a smaller one for our needs,” says Peter Karanja, one of the community members at the site.
