Limuru MP Peter Mwathi has faulted plans by a section of MPs to impeach Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki for sending Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lily Koros on a compulsory leave.
Mwathi says that the plan by some MPs is not the right move, adding that the impeachment plan should be dropped.
Speaking to journalists during the closure of the three day National Assembly post election seminar in Mombasa on Wednesday, Mwathi said that issues sorrunding KNH are serious and should not be politicized.
He said that there is nothing to fear for, stating that the KNH CEO will resume her duties once the probe is complete.
“I don’t support my colleagues who are planning to table a motion to impeach Health CS Kariuki,” he said.
The MP called on MPs to keep politics out of the KNH issues and allow investigators do their work.
“What we all want and Kenyans want is to see order restored at the KNH, nothing else,” he said.
At least 124 MPs are said to have signed a petition supporting CS Kariuki's impeachment.
On Wednesday , the MPs led by Aldai's Cornelly Serem said they will present the impeachment motion in the House next week.
According to the lawmakers, CS Kariuki had no legal mandate and powers to fire or even direct the KNH Board to send the CEO on compulsory leave.
The lawmakers claim that the CS move to send Koros on compulsory leave had a hidden agenda.
The MPs are demanding for Koros immediate reinstatement.
Last week, CS Kariuki said that Koros had been send on compulsory leave following an incident at KNH where doctors allegedly conducted brain surgery on a wrong patient.
Koros and a clinical officer were sent on leave to pave way for investigations.
The Kenyatta National Hospital has in the recent days been marred with controversy and strange happenings that are now questioning the hospitals credibility as the largest facility in East and Central Africa
