Limuru traders have called on the Kiambu County government to move hawkers away from the town and into the Limuru Market as they cause congestion and affect their businesses.
Speaking at Neema House, Limuru town where traders held their final year meeting today, the chairman of the traders James Mugo said that hawkers were causing congestion in the town.
He appealed to the county government to lock these hawkers out of town and instead accommodate them in an open air market.
The chairman said it was not fair for traders to pay taxes so as to operate in the town only to see a hawker selling the same commodity they have yet they have not paid any revenue to operate within.
Mugo also revealed how the hawkers steal from their customers. He said as the traders community in the area, they needed a favourable environment for their business.
"These hawkers escape paying taxes and that's why they never want to be allocated anywhere. We want the county government to intervene and help us solve this situation early enough because our businesses are affected with these people and also unnecessary congestion especially at night," said Mugo.
He also revealed that the hawkers wait until the county askaris close in order to move into the town. Mugo requested that as 2016 approaches, the matter be addressed.
