Addressing reporters on Friday, sub-county Youth Enterprise Funds chairman Vincent Gathu said that most young people are reluctant to apply for government tenders.

Statistics show that very few youth groups have applied for tenders, said Gathu, adding that the situation reflects a negative picture of the sub-county.

He attributed the reluctance to ignorance and desire for white collar jobs which are hard to come by.

“It’s unfortunate that young people in Limuru are not willing to work with the government in terms of applying for tenders,” he said.

He urged youths to put aside negative perceptions about the government and take advantage of the opportunities to improve their wellbeing.

The chairman added that tendering procedures have been made easier through the integration of technology and that youths should not fear of being intimidated or denied opportunities.

Gathu said that training workshops have been organised to educate youths on the need of applying for development funds.
