A group of youths from Karanjee area in Limuru within Kiambu County has unveiled an initiative to curb drug and substance abuse among students, youth and other members of the society.
The newly formed group, Limuru Youth for Change aims at roling out a drug and substance abuse campaign in the area and device amicable solutions to curb the drug abuse menace.
Speaking in Limuru on Friday, Newton Kinuthia, the group’s chairman said the move to form the group was triggered by the need to have a concrete strategy to tackle and address drug and substance abuse among the youth.
Kinuthia said the group comprises of 52 members who are determined to fight drug abuse in the region with the hope that the county government will support give them financial support.
He chairman said that the group has begun visiting schools both primary and high schools to sensitise the youth on the effects of drug abuse.
Kinuthia said that about 80 percent of drug victimsin the area are productive youths aged between 10-35 years meaning people regarded as future leaders are drowning in the vice.
The group welcomes anyone who would wish to join them and they hope that by 2017, they will have managed to curb the vice in the area.
