Another bypass that connects one end of the town to another has also been earmarked upgrading to eliminate congestion in the town.

Governor Ranguma, said tendering for the roads had been done and work on them would start soon. He said the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) will reconstruct at a cost of Sh300 million, a section of the Kisumu-Kakamega road that branches off to Carwash Estate.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha), he said, will upgrade the Mamboleo junction-Kisumu airport road to form a bypass for light vehicles seeking to avoid the congested City Centre.

"We have been lobbying the government to repair these roads because we are keen on opening up Kisumu to investments and infrastructure has been one of our major challenges," he said.

The town road that stretches from the main bus park to Car wash Estate is currently in a bad state of disrepair and is prone to traffic congestion during the peak hours. Traffic snarl ups are commonplace as drivers try to navigate the numerous potholes, causing jams.

He urged drivers of heavy commercial trucks to stick to the Northern bypass as an out of town route linking the Kisumu-Nairobi and Kisumu-Busia roads.
