Girls at the AIC Leseru secondary school can now study confidently after the County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with Lions Club of Eldoret donated sanitary towels to them.
Speaking during the event at the school on Tuesday, Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Health Services Everlyn Rotich said lack of sanitary towels have not only made girls stay out of class but also leave them exposed to infections.
"Girls who cannot access sanitary towels miss school for an average of six days in every month, thereby affecting their studies and translating to low performances," said Mrs. Rotich after donating the sanitary towels.
"The event is geared towards ensuring that school girls relish uninterrupted spell during their learning sessions. The sanitary towels come to wash away worries that usually hit girls during their menstrual days, most failing to concentrate or having to miss classes," she added.
The event characterized by big smiles from the teenagers, also saw wheelchairs given to physically disabled students.
Drugs for deworming were also distributed to the students.
