The youthful MP, who won the seat in the August polls was arrested on Sunday and charged with insulting the president and inciting the public.

His life at the University of Nairobi, where he was the leader of SONU was full of similar predicaments, spending nights in police custody for various reasons.

Here are some of the highlighting moments in his life at the helm of SONU.

Arrested for making inciting remarks

In june 2016, the then SONU chair was arrested for hate speech and inciting violence. He allegedly made inciting comments against Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

The threat against Kuria was made after Kuria had claimed that Raila Odinga could be killed.

Babu was held at the Kilimani police station for questioning, and students from the university demonstrated to have him released.

Arrested for causing chaos at police station

While still at the helm of SONU, Owino was again arrested for causing chaos at a polling station.

This time, the MP was accused of causing disturbance, when he went to demand for the release of businessman Chris Okeyo Obure.

Police said Babu stormed the station with a group of his supporters demanding Obure's release.

Obure had been accused of wrongfully misusing his gun at a nightclub.

Arrested for insulting the president

On Sunday September 24, the MP, whose real name is Paul Ongili was arrested for allegedly insulting the president and inciting the public.

He was taken to Kilimani police station, where he spent two nights before being released on bond.

Rearrested immediately

He was however rearrested immediately after his release, and locked up in unknown place.

Apart from the arrests, the MP is known for his no-nonsense and don’t care attitude, and has rubbed shoulders wrongly with many leaders and individuals.
