Opposition chief Raila Odinga jetted to the Coastal town of Mombasa on Monday where he held a party meeting amid rising cracks in Kenya's largest opposition parties.
Among regions where the ODM party is currently facing cracks is Coast where the former prime minister has enjoyed phenomenal support in the last two general elections.
Despite his presence in Mombasa, however, some of the region's key politicians and his close associates boycotted his meeting. Among those who did not feature in the meeting include leaders who have of recent indicated that they will support Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
They included outspoken Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Msambweni's Suleiman Dori, Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Benjamin Tayari (Kinango) and Jones Mlolwa (Voi).
Others are Daniel Mwashako (Wundanyi) and Taita Taveta Senator Jones Mwaruma.
Ruto has for the last one month been frequenting Coast region as he tries to bolster his support ahead of the 2022 presidential election which he says he will take a stab at the presidency.
He has been keen on marshaling support for himself now that there are indicators President Uhuru Kenyatta may not support his bid to succeed him in State House.
Raila during the Monday meeting steered off some of ODM member's request that he punishes rebel MPs from Coast.
