Orange Democratic Movement party lost a number of governorship positions that saw its representation drop drastically.

Prior to elections, the party was locked in bitter internal wrangles after skewed nominations and withdrawal of some candidates from the party due to internal rivalries.

But inability of the party to invest in a number of counties saw it lose seats to rival Jubilee party, despite initial projections showing an easy win for them.

In Nairobi, Governor Evans Kidero lost to Senator Mike Sonko of Jubilee, despite the ODM party being in pole position to clinch the seat. Many ODM supporters fled to upcountry leading to the defeat.

Similar trend was witnessed in Kajiado where ODM was confident of Governor David Nkedienye’s reelection. He lost to his archrival Joseph Lenku.

At Wajir, ODM lost a series of parliamentary seats but the most shocking was that of Governor Ahmed Abudulahi. He was projected to win the seat after becoming the first governor to tarmac a road in the Northern Frontier region.

Unexpectedly, ODM lost Taita Taveta governorship to Wiper after Thomas Mwedeghu, who beat Governor John Mruttu lost badly to Granton Samboja.
