A new poll has revealed counties where the National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga would garner more votes as compared to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 polls.
According to the poll released by Radio Africa Group, Wednesday, Uhuru would beat his main rival, Odinga, in the presidential race by garnering 49 per cent of votes against Raila’s 44 per cent.
However, voters would be forced to go back to the ballot for a second round since none of the two would have a complete win in the first round for failing to clinch the 50+1 votes as stipulated in the constitution.
The survey indicates that if elections were to be held today, Raila would beat Uhuru in Kitui county by garnering 79 percent of vote casted against Uhuru’s 18 percent. In Trans-Nzoia Raila would get 77 percent while Uhuru would garner 16 per cent.
In Kisii and Garissa counties, Raila would garner 57 and 56 per cent of votes respectively while Uhuru would get 21 and 32 per cent respectively.
On the other hand, Uhuru would beat Raila in Nandi county by 73 percent against Raila’s 16 per cent. In Bomet county where Nasa has tried to make inroads, Uhuru would garner 61 per cent while Raila would get 21 per cent and in Meru Uhuru would get 86 per cent against Raila’s 10 per cent.
The findings saw 3,549 respondents polled between July 10 and 16, 2017.
The poll was conducted using computer-aided telephone interviews and has a sampling error of +/-1.7 per cent, with a 95 per cent confidence level.
