With only one month remaining to the October 17 presidential contest pitting President Uhuru Kenyatta against NASA leader Raila Odinga, the race for the country's over 19 million registered voters has gained momentum.Whereas Raila's traditional Luo Nyanza support base remains solid, his Western Kenya and Coast political turfs have become vulnerable to Jubilee's constant raids.Raila who will be contesting for the country's top seat for a fifth time will have to put everything right if he is to finally realize his presidential ambition and as such, the following counties may make or break him politically.Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma and Vihiga counties from the former Western Province are proving to be Raila's headache with Jubilee keen to swing the region in its favour. In the August 8 polls, Raila garnered 1,186,379 from the four counties with Uhuru's tally of 242,388 signifying that the region is becoming vulnerable. To reverse the trend, he should focus his energy in the region.Kisii and Nyamira counties are also slowly drifting to Jubilee if the outcome of the August 8 polls is anything to go by. With Uhuru piping Raila in Nyamira County, Raila's campaign machinery should quickly respond to water down Uhuru's influence. In the two Maasai Counties of Narok and Kajiado, Raila's fading influence was exposed as Uhuru carried the day in all the two counties which have over 700,000 registered voters. After dominating Coast region's politics for one decade now, Raila's influence in the region is under serious threat. During the August 8 poll, the ODM leader managed to win in all the six Coast counties. However, Uhuru managed to get a good share of the region's votes. With almost 100,000 votes in Mombasa and further 43,000 in Kwale County, Raila should focus his energy in the two counties which are slowly turning into battlegrounds.
