Despite the few number of days remaining before Kenyans make a decision ahead of August polls, political protagonists could be camping in critical regions where presidential elections will be decided.
Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his main challenger Raila Odinga’s campaign teams have earmarked regions that could swing the vote in their favour.
Having tried to traverse regions believed to be their strongholds or those that have traditionally voted opposing side, critical counties will be on top of their itinerary in the final week.
“They have gone to their perceived strongholds and even tried to make entry to hostile regions,” says Gideon Mamboleo.
He adds: “But there are counties that none has a commanding authority and they need to do intensive work. These regions are becoming widely open in Kenyan politics.”
According to the political scientist, Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, Isiolo and Marsabit would prove vital in 2017 race and each candidate needs a crucial victory to be declared winner.
Also in the category are Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Baringo and west Pokot with Meru and Tharaka Nithi regions said to be having a huge significance in decision 2017.
