National Assembly's Committee on Appointments led by House Speaker Justin Muturi, for the 2nd day running, continued with the vetting process for the nine persons nominated to the Cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.
According to the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act 33, 2011, all Public Officers nominated as Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, High Commissioners and Ambassadors among others, are to be vetted by the National Assembly, on their suitability for the offices they are nominated to.
The nominees that were being vetted were:
Prof. Margaret Kobia - (Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs), Dr. Monica Juma - (Foreign Affairs and International Trade), John Munyes - (Petroleum and Mining), Faridah Karoney - (Lands, Housing and Urban Development), Peter Munya - (East Africa Affairs & the Northern Frontier Development).
Others include: Keriako Tobiko - (Environment & Forestry), Simon Chelugui - (Water and Sanitization), Ukur Yatani - (Labour & Social Welfare) and Rashid Achesa Muhammed - (Sports and Heritage).
Once the vetting process is completed, the Committee will table its report to the House recommending approval or rejection of the nominees.
If approved, the names will be forwarded to the President for appointment.
