Nineteen governors are set to be locked out of the August 8 race by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over integrity issues.
IEBC said that although some of those blacklisted have been cleared, their certificates are set to be revoked after verification from the relevant public institutions.
Similarly, four governors and parliamentary aspirants will be targetted for falsifying their academic papers.
This is after IEBC wrote to the Commission for University Education (CUE) to determine authenticity of certificates belonging to Oscar Sudi, Thuo Mathenge, Mithike Linturi and Granton Samboja academic papers.
Even after declaring himself a graduate of the University of Nairobi in the class of 2001, EACC investigators are said to have established that he never graduated from the insitution.
IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati revealed that confirmation by CUE would be final.
“The commission for university education confirmation shall be final in the determination of eligibility,” Chebukati said.
On Friday, the commission withdrew the certificate of Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Chitavi Antony Mkalla on grounds that he was of questionable integrity.
This was after Chitavi was cleared at 4 pm before his clearance was later cancelled 9 pm the same day after recommendation by EACC.
Twelve other sitting and aspiring candidates with corruption charges and misuse office also risk being stopped as outlined in a document now released by the IEBC.
These include:
Chris Obure (current senator - Kisii)
Oscar Sudi
Thuo Mathenge
Mithike Linturi
Granton Samboja
Chitavi Antony Mkalla (Mombasa)
Hassan Noor (Mandera)
"The list was informed by reports from credible institutions and we have looked at the cases that are active in court," said National Integrity Alliance leader Samuel Kimeu.
Those on the EACC list include
Nathif Jama (Nathif Jama, Garissa)
Godana Doyo (Isiolo)
Alfred Mutua (Machakos)
Murang'a Mwangi Wa Iria (Murang'a)
Sospeter Ojamong (Busia)
Evans Kidero (Nairobi)
Cornel Rasanga (Siaya)
Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga)
