The dream of every child is to be raised by his or her parents.
However, every day rising challenges have led to family breakups and, most times, those who suffer are children. Let's look at the list of some of Kenya's present celebrities who left their homes, endured the street harsh life and sprung back to fame.
1. Guardian Angel
The gospel artist whose tracks are now topping the music industry grew up in the street and has never shied away from sharing his experience.
"I got arrested when I was in the streets. I was on the streets and I think the President at that time said the streets should be cleared. So I was among those who were cleared from the streets", said, angel.
2. Bahati
His mother died when he was still young and he ended up on the streets where he says he faced a difficult life. He was rescued and taken to the ABC orphanage in Mathare slums from where he was nurtured to the man he is today.
3. Annitah Raey
The radio presenter admits she grew up in a family where the mother was very harsh and could not tolerate "funny children behavior".
"I was so rebellious because I was raised by a very harsh mother. I started running away from home at a very tender age of 13 years and started living in the streets. I lived in the streets of Nairobi with the worst people in the society. Those were my friends," she says.
4. MCA Tricky
He has featured many times on the Churchill Show on Sundays as the Member of Chokora Assembly. He says he experienced the hard street life in Nairobi. "I worked as a vegetable errand boy to and from Gikomba market to survive," he said.
5. Ringtone
The gospel artist spent most of his childhood in the streets of Nairobi. He claims his street life began when his mother dumped him at the doorsteps of one the bars along Tom Mboya Street.
