Nairobi’s Central Police Station has released fifteen (15) names of students from the University of Nairobi who are wanted for committing various crimes within the university last week.
Thousands of students had gone to streets in solidarity with embattled Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, a former student leader, who had been arrested for allegedly insulting the president.
But even with the public accusing police of using excessive force to quell protests, the police department has released names of students who are required to report to OCS within 24 – hour’s time.
Among those in the most wanted list include Hillary Morienga, John Ouko, Joseph Kigera, Maxell Magawi, Mwambia Thuranira, Ochieng’ Okumu, Ian Daniel and Evans Odhiambo.
Others include Franklin Odongo, Wambai Ochieng’, Emmanuel Barasa, Omondi Haya, Nyariki Cliff, Ragira Mogaka, Obwora Noel and Ayumba Ronney.
Apparently, the institution had issued letters of expulsion to the fifteen students moments before Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi issued an indefinite closure notice.
Police are accusing the students of taking part in fracas, malicious damage of property and gang raping within the institution.
