Although the contest is expected to be a two-horse race, other candidates cannot be ignored.
Here is a look at the eight candidates cleared by the national electoral body to contest for the nation’s top seat.
Raila Odinga The former prime minister will be contesting for the fourth time. The Luo political kingpin will be banking on the support of Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, Chama Cha Mashinani Leader Isaac Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader Musalia Mudavadi to ascend to power.
Uhuru Kenyatta
President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are seeking re-election after their term ends in August. The two leaders have been asking Kenyans to vote for them because of their performance scoreboard.
Ekuru AukotEkuru Aukot is a former secretary of the Committee of Experts known for being part o the team that drafted the 2010 Constitution. This is here his first time to contest for the nation’s top seat.
Abduba Dida
Dida will be contesting on on an Alliance for Real Change ticket under the Tunza Coalition. He is a former Lenana High School teacher.
Prof Michael Wainaina
The candidate is a former Literature lecturer at Kenyatta University. He also has vast experience in the field of education. Joseph NyagahNyagah was among the most famous Chief Whip in the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s era.
Japhet KaluyuKaluyu’s America accent has sparked excitement among the electorate. He will be banking on his experience to unseat President Kenyatta
Cyrus Jirongo
Cyrus Jirongo winds up the list of candidates contesting for the Presidency in 2017. The lawmaker is confident that he will beat the other seven politicians to clinch the seat in August.
