The Auditor General Edward Ouko has raised queries on the government spending in recent years, with the national debt hitting an all-time high.

The Treasury’s latest Quarterly Economic and Budgetary Review report indicates that total public debt stood at Sh4.57 trillion at the end of December 2017, which is a worrying figure.

The auditor general has pointed out some of the projects the government has lost huge sums of money over the years .

Here are the seven main projects.

1. Sh2.2 billion Augusta Westland AW-139 Helicopter that crashed after four months and no accident report was provided to facilitate compensation. 

2. Sh1.5 billion aircraft procured for Royal Jordanian Airforce but could not fly. 

3. Sh460 million used for the construction of a building for food processing factory Kenyatta barracks, Gilgil. 

4. Sh373 million food processing equipment yet to be supplied to the defense ministry. 

5. Sh6.3 billion squandered on loans for Ken-Ren Chemical and Fertiliser, a project that never took off. 

6. Sh578 million proposed upgrading of Othaya District Hospital 

7. Sh516 million stalled construction of chancery residence in Islamabad
