The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has given several political aspirants in counties countrywide the go ahead to run for different seats.
However, in some polling stations the IEBC was forced to use a manual system, after the electoral systems failed.
Five people were injured during a rally in Tharaka Nithi, where they were witnessing the clearance of the governor by the IEBC.
Gubernatorial aspirants in Baringo County was turned away by the IEBC, after his running mate failed to provide a certificate from the Commission of University Education, and was given until Friday 4pm to provide it or be locked out.
The commission has also cleared Ferdinand Waititu to run for the Kiambu County gubernatorial seat.
He was issued with the certificate at Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology. He will battle it out with the incumbent William Kabogo, who has also been cleared for the same.
Former Secretary to the cabinet Francis Kimemia has been cleared to run for the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket.
Kimemia will face the incumbent Daniel Waithaka, and Moses Ndirangu who are vying as independent candidates and former Nyandarua cabinet secretary will be vying on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket.
Four candidates have been cleared by IEBC to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial seat. The four are Kivutha Kibwana, who will be defending his seat on a Wiper Party ticket, David Makika of New Democrats, Bernard Kiilu and Gideon Ndambuki of Jubilee.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has also been cleared to defend his seat on a Maendelo Chap Chap ticket.
After he was issued with his certificate in Machakos, Mutua urged IEBC to bar candidates who might propagate violence during the campaign period.
Wavinya Ndeti was also cleared alongside Bernard Kyala, who is currently the deputy governor.
Governor Juliu Malombe of Kitui received his certificate from IEBC. He will defend his seat against Charity Ngilu of NARC, and independent candidate David Musila.
Four candidates from Nakuru County have also been cleared to vie for the gubernatorial seat. The four are Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Senator Joyce Ingai, and Peter Koros of CCM and Paul Njoroge of KANU.
Kajiado Governor David Nkidiany of ODM will be defending his seat against David Lenku of Jubilee.
West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo has been cleared to contest the seat on a KANU ticket. Lonyangapuo is fighting to unseat Jubilee’s Simon Kachapin on 8th August.
Mwangi wa Iria will also be on the ballot to defend his seat, despite a voter from Murang’a Jackson Ndegwa filing an application at the court trying to bar him from contesting based on corruption allegations.
Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi will be vying for the same seat on an independent ticket.
Others who were cleared on Friday have been cleared by the commission include; Anne Waiguru of Jubilee, Anyang’ Nyong’o, Jackson Mandago of Jubilee, Martin Wambora, Bundotich Buzeki, Lee Kinyanjui, Miguna Miguna, Babu Owino, James Ongwe, Ali Joho among others.
