Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s ongoing push for electoral justice in Kenya has received a major backing from a section of US leaders, reports the Sunday Nation.
After a week-long tour to Washington DC, Odinga is expected back on Thursday and plans are underway to have NASA supporters usher him in at Kenyatta International Airport.
“Raila has met everybody he planned to meet in US and he is continuing to meet more,” Moses Wetangula, one of NASA principal said.
With Odinga keen to push for electoral reforms, he has already embarked on People’s Assembly caucus, which is expected to be passed by 20 assemblies under its control.
“We held candid productive discussion with an emphasis to democracy and constitutionalism. Justice must be done through conducting of free and fair elections,” he said on his Facebook.
Among dignitaries he met include Assistant Secretary to African Affairs Donald Yamamoto, Michael Phelan who chairs Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Greg Simpkins who is the Director of House of Representatives sub-committee on Africa.
Also believed to be backing Odinga are senators Chris Coons of Delaware who chairs Senate Foreign Relations on African affairs and President of IRI Daniel Twinning.
