President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to ensure that he listens to opposition’s leader's concern over the Northern Collector Tunnel or regret later.
According to Ibeno ward representative Alfred Makori, the concerns raised by Raila are genuine and the residents of the affected counties should stand by him as he is trying to help them and their generations from the acute water shortage that may result from the project.
Speaking outside the county assembly hall on Tuesday morning Makori said that it’s high time the presidents names a team of environmentalist to come up with the probable outcome of the project and how it can be solved.
“As the former Premier said the Northern Collector Tunnel for sure will be disastrous and the larger Murang'a, Garissa, Ukambani and Tana River Delta region, there will be an acute shortage in the area and that will happen in less than five years,” he added.
Makori said the project should be stopped so that the county government of Nairobi can seek an alternative way to get water or to ensure that they collect water from many counties rather than only focusing on Muranga.
This comes barely after Raila said the World Bank funded project will have great impact in the region as it will collect water from Seven Rivers in the Aberdares and diverting it to Thika's Ndakaini dam for use in Nairobi and the rivers are commonly used in the counties of Murang'a, Garissa, Tana River and the Coast.
