(Photo-The star)Little known private high school, Al -Azar high school surprised many by producing the best in Garissa County in the 2017 KCSE results announced on Wednesday by Education CS Fred Matiangi. Abdi Barre,18, a Kenyan by birth whose parents were forced to register as refugees in the expansive Dadaab camps after losing they're entire heard to the drought of 92 severe droughts scored a B+. According to the school's manager Ahmed Sambur, Abdi who is staying with her parental grandmother had struggled to raise school fees and at one point dropped out of school. The father is based at the Hagadera Refugee camp. The mother passed on ten years ago. “We saw the potential in this boy at the early stages and we could not let him go to waste. We had to go for him,” said Ahmed. He added: “We are proud of the boy that he did not disappoint us.I am making a passionate appeal to our local leadership to support the boy who wants to study medicine at the university,” A visibly delighted Abdi speaking to the press narrated how his secondary education has been a struggle from the word go. “Mine has been a struggle but my sheer determination gave me hope to continue with the struggle. my lowest moments was when I lost my mother and when I temporarily dropped out of school,” said Abdi who is a first born in a family of five; three boys,2 girls. Abdi challenged candidates to focus on their education noting that it doesn’t matter the school the school you are in or the changes that have been made in the examination management by CS Matangi. “Students look for scapegoats when they don’t perform well. with hard work and discipline any candidate whether from Mandera, Nairobi or anywhere will make it irrespective of the school he or she is,” said. On his, part Ayala Abdi from the same school who scored a B-thanked the teacher's fellow students and parents for their support and encouragement. There was disquiet among the top schools following the dismal performance from top performing schools which normally come out to celebrate the streets of Garissa town. There was no single school from Northeastern that was ranked among the top 100.it was the same for top students.
