According to rare records from the British museums, the late Kenyatta was born at exactly 2PM on the evening of October 20, 1893.

He was born Kamau Wa Ngegi to Ngegi Wa Muigai and his wife Wambui in Ng'enda village in Gatundu, currently enlisted under Kiambu county.

His father died when he was still very young, forcing him to end up in the custody of his uncle Ngegi. Ngegi inherited his mother and adopted Kenyatta, hence the name Kamau Wa Ngegi.

Wambui later died during childbirth, with Kenyatta, then Kamau, this time ending up with his grandfather Magana in Muthiga.

The young Kamau then left home in pursuit of the white man's wisdom, ending up at the Church of Scotland Mission (CSM) in Thogoto, several miles from the current Kikuyu town.

There, he studied the Bible, carpentry, English and Mathematics, paying his fees with the proceeds of his job as a cook for a white settler nearby, graduating in 1912 to become a carpenter.

He enrolled at the University College London to study Social Anthropology and later married Englishwoman Edna Clarke in 1946, before becoming the Principal of Kenya Teachers College Githunguri.

He joined politics soon later, rising to the post of the Kenya African Union President, before working his way upwards to end up in State House as President on December 12, 1964.
