Funeral committee2:52pm: During his visit at the Lee Funeral Home Deputy President William Ruto said ICT CS Joe Mucheru and Nyeri senator would lead funeral arrangements.Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi also said a meeting would be held in the county to plan the way forward.

Succession1:53pm: After death of a governor, the Constitution stipulates that the deputy governor takes over as the governor for the remaining time.In this case, Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga will succeed the late Governor Gakuru.Teachers mourn1:57pm: Several teachers who taught the governor during his young age have eulogised him as a great student.Speaking in Nyeri they said they had lost a wonderful leader who can never be replaced.

Other occupants1:42pm: During the accident Governor Gakuru had other three occupants in the car.They include personal assistant Albert Gakuru, the driver and the bodyguard.Nyeri county assembly speaker John Kagucia the bodyguard suffered serious body injury and was in theatre.The other two, are in stable condition.
