Police teargas

3:36:pm: The protesters have been teargassed at the CBD by armed anti-riot police. They went and came back in groups once again.

Heavy security presence along various city streets.

Street demos

15:24pm: Thousands of the demonstrators are currently demonstrating along Nairobi city streets, with whistles, as they carry twigs and placards, chanting anti-Chiloba slogans.

They are headed to IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers.

NASA at Uhuru Park 

3:04pm: NASA leader Senators James Orengo is addressing supporters at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, over anti-IEBC demos. Top NASA leaders are not present. Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed are as well present.

Gikomba fire putt off

2:38pm: President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged to rebuild Gikomba Market, after it was razed down, this morning.

Sonko assents to the first Bill

2:37pm: "Assented to the Nairobi County Appropriation Bill 2017 which is meant to authorize the release of 35.9 bn for dvlpmt & recurrent expenditure" - Governor Mike Sonko, Nairobi County.

Orengo, Muthama in town

2:16pm: NASA leaders Senators James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama (former) have been spotted in Nairobi CBD, alongside supporters, ready for the anti-IEBC demos.

ODM party said: "Protests countrywide are meant to pile pressure on IEBC to purge its ranks of those who dubiously conducted last polls #IEBCReformProtests"

Business halted in Kisumu

1:51pm: Business in Kisumu has been paralysed, after as Nasa supporters destroyed KIWASCO water lines, affecting supply to estates. Nasa supporters are engaging the police in running battles.

1:45pm: NASA protesters are walking along Nairobi city streets, awaiting their leaders.

Nairobi anti-IEBC protests continue

1:20pm: Nairobi County Woman Rep Passaris is leading the demonstrations. Accompanied by fellow local leaders and NASA supporters, the ODM MP walked towards the IEBC offices, along University Way, with their hands up, a symbol that their demos were peaceful.

She addressed the press, and asked Governor Mike Sonko, not to be used by some parties, to allow Mungiki to counter NASA demos, in the name of 'Nairobi Business Community'.

Kisumu Tumaini Supermarket/Eatery looted

1:15pm: Tumaini Supermarket in Kisumu town has been looted, after goons broke in, running away with almost all of the products. Traces of blood have been seen at some areas inside the supermarket, an indication that some people, possibly the staff, were hurt.

An eatery in the town has also been looted. this forced the police to intervene, chasing away the protesters, who later responded by hurling stones. 

Calm at IEBC

12:50pm: There is calm along University Way where IEBC offices are located. Transport operations are ongoing, whith residents on foot walking without fears. Heavy police presence at the area.

Confrontation in Nairobi

12:38pm: There was a brief confrontation between NASA demonstrators and supporters believed to be of Jubilee Party in the CBD, over the demos. Those from Jubilee countered of Nasa, who were led by Kisumu Woman Rep Rosa Buyu, saying they were not after demonstrations, but to sabotage peace in the country.

Buyu was briefly stopped from continuing with the demonstrations. Police came to restore calm.

Nairobi Business Community 

12:28pm: The Nairobi business community is already in the CBD, with trucks/buses, ready to counter NASA's anti-IEBC protests.

The team has been accused f being Mungiki Gang, mobilised by the Jubilee government to frustrate Nasa protests in Nairobi and kill supporters.

The business community vowed to counter the Nasa demos, on grounds that the protests hurt the economy.

Governor Sonko, Woman Rep Passaris visit Gikomba

12:07pm: The two Nairobi county leaders have visited the market following a fire that has razed down a section of the market, causing losses.

They have pledged to work with the traders to ensure frequent cases of fire at the market stop. Passaris blamed such cases on rampant corruption.

Traders have called on the county government for help as some said they had borrowed loans to buy stock, which has been burned to ashes.

NASA demos in Eldoret, Homa Bay, Nyeri counties

12:06pm: The protests have kicked off in Homa Bay. 

In Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County Assembly Majority Leader who is also the Karuna Meibeiki MCA, Josphat Lowoi, said: "As I stand nobody will touch them (Nasa supporters) as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others."

In Nyeri, which is a stronghold of the Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta, the demonstrations have not bee seen, with residents saying there will be no demonstrations.

Kakamega, Siaya, Kisumu, Mombasa demos

11:39am: Kisumu-Kakamega road has been blocked at Kondele as NASA supporters protests in the lakeside city.

The protests have also kicked off in Kakamega, and Siaya counties. Protesters are already in streets chanting "Chiloba must go!" slogans in Kakamega.

In Mombasa, leaders such as Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir are leading the demonstrations.

Sonko signs new Bill

11:16am: "I will be signing my first County Bill at City Hall shortly," said the first time, Nairobi County boss. He released a list of new CeCs, yesterday, kicking out his predecessor Dr Evans Kidero's cabinet.

NASA Principals

11:09am: It is believed that the principals, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, may join supporters for the demonstrations.

The leaders will first meet at Uhuru Park, for a meeting with supporters, thereafter kick-start the demos in Nairobi streets, officially.

However, Nairobi Police Commandant Japheth Koome said: "If political leaders want to come to Anniversary Towers, they are allowed but peacefully."

Esther Passaris

11:04am: Nairobi County Woman Rep ODM's Esther Passaris slated to visit Gikomba market after inferno razed down section of the open air market, this morning. Fire fighters including those of Sonko Rescue Team are at the scene.

Mombasa anti-IEBC demos

10:58am: Protesters are slowly but gradually grouping for the NASA protests along several streets in Mombasa town, carrying placards and twigs. They first converged at Uhuru Gardens, ready or the demos.

Mathare bonfires

10:50am: Nairobi Police Commandant Japheth Koome has dismissed reprts that there were bonfires lit in in Mathare by NASA supporters, this morning, following social media reports.

"Do not rely on social media," said Koome.

Nairobi County Police Commandant 

10:48am: Speaking during an interview outside the IEBC headquarters, Anniversary Towers, Japheth Koome has said the demos are allowed, provided the supporters are not armed.

IEBC Training ROs

10:35am: A four-day national training of 700 Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers for the October 26 fresh presidential election is underway at Safari Park, Nairobi.

Gikomba Fire

10:33am: Upto this hour, fire fighters are still battling to contain inferno in Nairobi's open air market, largest in East and Central Africa, Gikomba. The fire started at  3am after spreading to two nearby buildings. Cause of the inferno is still unclear as traders count losses.

Protests begin

10:00am: Kisumu-Kakamega road has been blocked at Kondele as NASA supporters begin anti-IEBC protests in the lakeside city.

Kisumu is perceived a stronghold of the Opposition, and Raila odinga enjoys massive support from the county.

Odinga has however found himself in trouble, after asking supporters to hold demonstrations so that their pants can be seen. Hivisasa has done a story and accompanied the video clip, about the same, just for you.

7:28am: ​Today (Friday October 6) marks another day for the National Super Alliance (Nasa) protests, in bid to kick-out some of the officials at the electoral body, IEBC, including CEO Ezra Chiloba. 

Led by the four principals, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, the leaders want their irreducible minimums addressed, before taking part in the fresh presidential election, slated for October 26th.

Despite warning from government Spokesperson Erick Kiraithe, yesterday, that the protests are hurting the economy, Nasa has vowed to stay put, until reforms are seen at the Wafula Chebukati-led agency.
