As Kenyans marked the WORLD’s AIDS Day on Friday, Nahashon Mbuthia Irungu from Lari Sub-County in Kiambu County has been living with HIV and AIDS for the last 17 Years. He narrates his journey since the death of his wife in 2003. He was left to care for their 3 children.Mbuthia was born in Lari district in 1969 and he up to class 7 and sat for his KCE. He did not get the chance to attend high school.He later joined a carpentry school from where he learned new skills in in woodwork. He used carpentry as a source of living to provide for his family. He later married his first wife and they were blessed with 3 children but as time went by, his wife started experiencing health complications and she tested her HIV status and to her disbelief, she found out that she was HIV+.“My wife got stigmatized and died in 2003. Since then life has become difficult for me. I find it hard to raise my children.” Said Mbuthia.Mbuthia said it’s been so hard for him to narrate to his children the cause of mother’s death in the past but nowadays, he said he feels free to express himself and give out advice to his children and young people. He commended the effort by the Government in giving out ARV's drugs and also expressed gratitude for the fund people who live with HIV receive from the INUA Jamii Kitty.
