Kikuyu Sub County deputy commissioner has put livestock thieves on notice in Ruthigiti area, Kikuyu Sub County following claims by area locals of increased crime in the area.
Speaking at the area chief’s camp on Monday, Elias Kithaura said that livestock theft had increased rapidly in the area over the past two months hence raising alarm.He said that over 50 cattle from different people had been stolen by these criminals who are said to raid homes at night and go with the cattle.
However, the deputy sub county commissioner said that they had arrested a suspect in Kikuyu who owns a butcher and a slaughter house where some lost cattle were found in his slaughter premises. He said that the suspect is in police custody in Kikuyu as he helps in investigations on the crime that had totally taken deep roots into the area.
Kithaura said over 10 households had been affected in Ruthigiti since December following the theft that has been a menace in the area. He said Ruthigiti being an area where farmers rely on their cattle and farming, he assured them that measures had been taken to stop these criminal gangs from terrorising residents.
“We have intensified patrols in the area especially at night in an effort to stop these crimes and we also call on residents to embrace togetherness and the Nyumba Kumi to fight crime,” he said.
He called on chiefs to be fast in their response as they benefited from the government motorbikes to solve such issues in the area.
