This is after it emerged that cattle thieves are using fake receipts pretending to be traders to move stolen animals to escape arrest.

Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said increased cattle rustling in the county must stop.

“Thieves won’t escape arrest this time round because any trader must give original receipt issued by county government officials to proof that the animals they are moving around with are not stolen,” he said.

Nakoru noted that more police officers will be deployed along the border of Nyamira – Bomet counties to beef up security.

“No livestock will move in or out of the border without proper scrutiny of the documents to be produced with those having the animals,” he stated.

He called on residents to be vigilant and report any suspect to police.

“Theft of livestock which was reported in Borabu won’t repeat if locals will work closely with police. Those with more animals should be in a position to identify their animals easily,” he added.
