Lobbies at the Coast have vowed to work together to ensure land and property issues in the region are resolved.
They accused the Ministry of Lands led by CS Jacob Kaimenyi and National Land Commission (NLC) of not doing enough to resolve critical issues on land grabbing, land adjudication, resettlement and leasehold renewal terms, the Daily Nation reports.
"We want to restate that the land subject is contentious. It can see the emergence of social movements that prioritise change in the social relations of production," said Pamoja Trust programme officer Ayuo Ketta.
Muhuri executive director Hassan Abdille said NLC had gone short of its mandate.
"In Mombasa there are massive land malpractices such as double titling, fake title deeds, grabbing of school playgrounds and fraudulent purchase of land by companies which NLC has failed to address fully," Abdille said as quoted by the paper.
The activists were speaking during a land conference in Mombasa over the weekend.
During the sessions, speakers included Haki Yetu executive director Father Gabriel Dolan, Kenya Land Alliance CEO Odenda Lumumba, land campaigner Shamsam Nagib among others.
The lobbyists pledged to be bold when presenting the land issues to the respective authorities.
"Let work together as a community to resist oppression. Go for your rights," said Nagib.
"Let us not tire in addressing problems in the land sector. We should push for what is right until we achieve it," insisted Father Dolan, a well-known land campaigner.
