Lobby group has asked Kisumu county government to integrate gender issues in the energy planning programmes.

Speaking at a workshop, Kisumu Practical Action Energy Specialist John Masai Kapolon said that the organisation realised that most county integrates development plans (CIDP) have not included the gender issues.

In Practical Action we have recognized that without inclusion of gender many of these community projects have issues with their effectiveness," said Kapolon.

Kapolon said that the initiative that will cover 6 counties namely Kisumu, Narok, Migori, Baringo, Vihiga and Kitui.

He said that most women projects have been very successful in their projects therefore the organisation wants to use that model in energy issues.

He said: "We want to ensure counties are aware of equal participation of both men and women energy planning. We are glad the county is implementing gender issues as you can see the chief officer of the Energy docket is a lady."

Kapolon said that aspects the program will look at the total energy access.

"We are talking of energy for lighting, cooking and other productive uses. We want to go further, other that providing energy for basic user, we want to provide energy for productive uses to generate income," said Kapolon.
