National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has received a major boost as he seeks to mobilize parliamentarians to pass the two-thirds gender rule after Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya agreed to support him.
Fida chairperson Josephine Mong’are said that the bill will sail through if the leaders in parliament have a good will, adding that the members are hopeful that President Uhuru Kenyatta meant what he said when he asked Duale, also Garissa town MP, to ensure that the Bill is passed once parliament resumes sittings.
“I hope the President meant what he said the other day because all we need is political goodwill. We want to believe that he was being genuine and that Parliament will do its duty because Jubilee has majority members in Parliament,” Mong’are said, as quoted by Star.
He also said that any bill can be brought back to the floor of the house after six months, adding that this period has elapsed since it was tabled.
“A Bill can only be reintroduced after a period of six months and that to us is the only Bill that has matured,” Mong’are said.
The passing of the bill will be a great milestone in this nation as we seek to ensure gender equality.
