A lobby group based in Mombasa has said there are inadequate rehabilitation centres at the port city to cater for the needs of all drug addicts.

Reach Out Centre Trust said on Sunday that the rising number of drug users in Mombasa is worrying calling on both the national and county governments to establish more rehabilitation centres at the region.

Mohamed Swale, the organisations executive director, however, lauded efforts by the county government to rehabilitate drug addicts and integrate them back to society.

"I understand we may be financially constrained. In fact this should push us to the limits to seek for financial help elsewhere. There are individuals and organisations willing to invest in this course," Swale aid as he addressed the media in Mombasa.

In 2016 Governor Hassan Joho launched a new rehabilitation for drug user in the port city although he aid the facility dos nto have the capacity to cater for the needs of all drug users in the county.

Another rehab is located at the Coast Provincial General Hospital and was renovated in early 2017.

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) three weeks ago reported that there are currently close to 500,000 drug addicts in Mombasa county alone.
