The 'Maendeleo ya Wanawake' Nakuru branch has decried over the perpetration of female genital mutilation among the girls in the Rift Valley.

She accused the medical fraternity of colluding with ignorant parents in perpetrating the exercise.
“It has come to our attention that doctors and nurses are colluding with parents to perpetrate the 'cut', which is both inhumane and illegal,” said the chairperson.
She reveled that the branch has a number of 120 volunteers who have been stationed over the county to oversee the operations of the ‘cut' are eliminated.
She also urged the parents to cooperate with the volunteers to see that the exercise is eradicated.
“This is the 'high season’ when the outlawed practice is gaining ground, I urge the parents to cooperate with our organization to eradicate the operation,” said Kezia.
She said the practice has denied many girls opportunities in life and there was need to fight the practice to release the girls from bondage of cultural menace.
“We will fight against the cultural practices to enable our girls excel in life,” added Kezia.
