According to the Executive Coordinator of Amani ni sisi Network Group, James Onkendi, the incident was shameful and the government would have seeked an alternative way to address the opposition leaders instead of tear gassing them.

“We are not happy the way the government is harassing the opposition leaders led by former premier Raila Odinga, and there is need for them to know that if they continue so they risk taking the country to where it was,” he added.

The official said that it was the government’s mandate to ensure that the electoral commission carried out its work well and ensure all the suspected corrupt officials are kicked out of office peacefully with all the procedures followed.

“It’s in the public domain that there are some of the IEBC officials who were involved in the Chicken gate scandal and there is need for the government to take action on that before we get into the general elections,” he added.

This comes barely hours after the opposition leaders were tear gassed when they visited the IEBC offices demanding answers to why they are still in office.

He was addressing the press on Monday evening at a Kisii Hotel.
