Speaking on Saturday in Likoni, Mombasa County, Haki Africa law and human rights officer Francis Gamba called upon the residents to come out and stem the vice.

Gamba said residents in the two counties have shied away from facing the challenge, as well as offering lasting solutions to it.

He said allowing underage girls to take part in prostitution was part of violating their rights, as the move also denies them an opportunity to receive education.

"Its the noble duty of the community, the administration, human rights lobby groups and parents to join hands in stemming the vice," said Gamba.

The human rights officer also faulted police for failing to apprehend the perpetrators who he said were holed up in villas and hotels in Mombasa and Kwale, operating a prostitution web that involves children.

Gamba also criticised parents for neglecting their parental role by turning a blind eye to the vice in order to benefit economically.
