Heart For Change director Lilian Marwa on Sunday said they are aiming to educate the girl child and parents on the dangers of FGM.
Marwa said parents should stop forcing girls to undergo the cut which is illegal and punishable by law.
“This year we have added a new topic known as the relationship of the girl child to her mother because most of the girls said they are unable to talk with their mothers on privacy issues. Our aim is to ensure the FGM practice is not carried out in the region,” said Mrs. Marwa.
She added that they have organized a one-week training and mentorship program currently taking place at St. Mary’s primary school Nyabururu where girls will be counseled, given life skills and courage to speak to their mothers without fear.
“Lack of proper communication has led to increased FGM cases in the region. But, the training will help girls talk with their mothers freely to help end FGM,” she added.
