Members of the Mwangaza Rehabilitation Centre on Saturday did a 10-kilometer walk in Machakos County where they educated on the youths on the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.

According to the NGO’s Director John Ombasa, the high number of youths turning to drug abuse is alarming.

He also said that the charity organization is dedicated to ensuring that there is a decline in the number of drug and substance users in the county.

Ombasa also said that the poor performance of boys in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations can be attributed to drug’s menace that has affected different counties.

"With KCPE examinations results showing girls performed more than boys, Mwangaza Rehabilitation Centre today organised a 10Km charity walk in Machakos County to raise awareness on effects of drugs and substance abuse which are some of the factors blamed for the dismal performance in academics," Ombasa said, as quoted by The Star.

He also said that some parents are to blame for the rise in the case of drugs and substance abuse because they have failed to guide their children on the best practices in life.

Ombasa further stated that the NGO has managed to rescue more than 100 kids who were lost in drugs.
