The town has witnessed skirmishes in the past months with Kisii and Nyamira leaderships failing to strike a deal over the ownership a week ago in Kisumu.

But Haki Africa Gusii branch Director Steve Makori said the organisation was keen to restore normalcy by rallying for peaceful coexistence.

“We are an impartial group and thought it's necessary to reconcile local communities. The exercise will start today and will take almost a month as long as we restore normalcy,” he said.

“These people have stayed peacefully for years now and we are disappointed that the situation can change in few months’ time. People need to get back to their businesses and as a lobby group, we want to see that realised,” he added.

He also challenged local leadership to avoid interfering with the process which they said will be void of politics.

“We are not politicians and we don't need them. They must keep off and let us do our work alone. We have assessed the situation and as a group we know areas that we will be covering throughout the process. Ultimately, we want residents to stay in peace regardless of the situation about the border,” he said.
