Efforts by group of elders drawn from different communities to unite the country have been supported by a lobby group, Mount Kenya Youth Caucus.
The lobby group chairman Linford Mutembei said the elders move comes timely to end the political stalemate in the country.
“The initiative by the elders from different communities to unite the country is good and we are supporting the move. The country needs to move on after hatred and divisive politics that the country witnessed last year,” said Mutembei.
He added that those opposed to the initiative are enemies of development interested to see Kenyans fighting.
"Peace initiatives are important because they can easily facilitate healing and reconciliation and bring people from different communities together,” he added.
He called on political leaders allied to NASA and Jubilee to stop inciting supporters to insult and abuse other communities.
"Politicians should desist from inciting supporters to cause chaos. They should lead by example and advise supporters on the need to live in peace, unity and harmony," said Mutembei.
According to Mutembei, Kenyans youth are at risk of being misused by politicians to get political mileage in the country's politics.
Mutembei was speaking in Kiambu town on Monday evening.
